Well i have been slack at updating so here is a quick spill as of today. working on getting the duck blind finished by the weekend and in time for opening day. we are booking fishing and waterfowl trips very quickly so if you are interested please call 252-394-5543 and schedule your trip today. rock fishing is picking up with some fish caught trolling. no signs of schoolies yet but that will change with the cooler water, there is also plenty of bait out there. these trips also make great gifts for Christmas.

Thoughts of the sea

As i sit my mind often wonders away to a special place. blue crystal clear water, tropical breezes, and salt air. i ask my self was i a tropical islander in a former life??? The thrill of running out in a flats boat with the warm sun in my face, perched on the bow with a fishing rod in my hand seeking the hunt. Sight casting to large carribean fish that fight like demons not to give you the upper hand. it is here where i imagine my wife and kids sitting in a small thatched roof hut where i am walking up in the white sand to show them the prize i caught. the smell of fresh fruit the kids brought home this morning and a small cup of rum with ice, garnished with a little papaya. no phones, no computers, just the faint sound of steel drums coming through the palm trees. this is what i call my second home.

All i can say is that the past couple of days the number of ducks being viewed were unreal. So this morning we went in and before you know it WOW...... widgeon, gads, teal, mallards, u name it it was coming. Great hunt with a wonderful group..... The kids were awesome!!

Well it seems that time is approaching for my season. When the sky is beautiful a light cool breeze in the air and plenty of rockfish and waterfowl in the air. Dont get me wrong i love summer. But there is something about the fall at Bulls Bay that only a local outdoorsman would love. We will be posting some pics soon of some of the landscapes we will be fishing and hunting. it is time to re line the reels and work on duck blinds, so get ready for some exciting stuff to come!!!

WENT OUT THE INLET YESTERDAY AND HEADED SOUTH. 70 FEET OF WATER AND 65 DEGREE WATER TEMPS. WE FOUND A BEAUTIFUL WATER LINE CHANGE WITH ALOT OF GRASS. OVERALL APPROX. 36 MILE TRIP. SAW 6 COBIA HOOKED ONE AND AFTER A SHORT RUN HE THREW THE HOOK. BROOKE AND MYSELF WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR GOOD FRIENDS AARON AND BRANDY FOR GREAT COMPANY AND AN AWESOME TIME.

Went out this morning with two good friends, Eric Brown and Hank Reynolds. Hank was back home from florida after spending a good amount of time over in afganistan. Eric was able to use his boat and put over due to it blowing NE in the sound. We must have timed it just right because we were back by lunch and had maybe and estimated 60 fish caught, some of these were released, but over all a good day and the fishing was constant. I would like to thank those guys for a good morning and the company was great!! until next time..

Duck Hunting the New Blind

Went to hunt the new blind a couple of days over the holiday and saw a bunch of birds. The only problem we had was that we havent constructed the boat hide yet so that really hurt us! The ducks would see the boat and flare away. But other than that the hunts we very promising!! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and just think Christmas is right around the corner!!!!

Storm, rain, wind, wind, rain, more wind, and more rain....Now if the fish would actually show themselves. Columbia 3 rd annual Rock fish tournament this weekend so if nothing else we will have some pics posted and some fish in the box.

Thanksgiving is next week with the first duck trip scheduled for that morning so be on the look out for a waterfowl report for that weekend as well.

WELL ME AND DAWSON FISHED FOR ABOUT 3.5 HRS ON SATURDAY WITH 1 20" ROCKFISH. DAWSON DID A REALLY GOOD JOB ON THE NET I MIGHT SAY AFTER HITTING THE FISH IN THE HEAD HE FINALLY GOT HIM IN THE BOAT!! NOT BAD FOR A 9YR OLD AND THE TIME FOR THE SEASON. I MARKED ALOT OF BAIT AND ALOT OF FISH I JUST COULDNT GET THEM TO BITE. WATER TEMP WAS AROUND 69-70 DEGREES AND IT LOOKS LIKE A GREAT SIGN FOR THINGS TO COME.

White Perch, Puppy Drum, and Flounder

Alot of fish seemed to be popping up around the area. The shoreline guys are cathing fair numbers of Perch, Drum and some Flounder. Water temps are in the low 80's right now and alot of Porpoises are being seen near shore. There seems to be alot of bait in the river as well, where schools of small Rockfish seem to be chomping on them. All of these fish seem to be caught on Beetle Spins, Mini Hopkins, Gulps, Rapalas, and small Rat-L-Traps.

Last week fishing trip with the Trophy Hunter

Well last tuesday was one of the best days of fishing i have had in a long time. The Dolphin were everywhere and so were we. We ended up with 49 gaffer dolphin and 1 king. Special thanks to Capt. Kenneth and Mate Joey for all your hard work. Also like to thank everyone who made the trip possible. We had a great time and hope to do it again real soon!!

BILLFISH TEASER FOR ME!!!!!!!!! I NEED A DRINK!!

Just received this email from my friend and great Captain, Tom Boice in Guatemala:

On morning of the fifth day my mate, Victor, remarked how he liked my new shirt. It was made here in Guate. with a nice Guatemala logo and sailfish embroidered on it. I said it’s your’s if you tease in a marlin today. Well that set the stage for the day. Though we were pulling teasers in the spread for sails we did have a nice mackerel ready to pitch on a Penn two speed with 60lb line..…just in case.
Again calm seas and blue water 30+ were the scene and we worked the occasional diving bird patch. Through the day Frank released a couple of sails on the fly and “Finess Les” was able to coax a sail to the boat on the light tackel. The day was nearing it’s end… half an hour and we’ll have to pull em I remarked to Victor. Victor being undaunted, rigged up a fresh teaser, marlin size, with a dorado belly embedded into a Senior Wide Range. I told him he must really want this shirt! As Victor dropped the teaser back an explosion of water erupted on the left long rigger teaser. We screamed MARLIN!!!!!!!!!!! in unison and Victor quickly started to tease him in. I grabbed the mackerel and let it back. Sure enough WHAM! Mr Mackeral is doing his “Jonah” imitation inside the marlin. That didn’t stop the feeding frenzy as the marlin next went after the squid chain teaser. He engulfed at least four of those before turning and heading out. The squid one by one pop, pop, popped back out of his mouth as he ran. Then the bite of circle hook on the mackerel was felt and he skied! He went ballistic and tail danced across the water seeming to be doing 30mph. We could see he was an angry black marlin and weighted about 300-350lbs. Frank got the honors and began his Guatemalan marlin workout routine. That fish was ornery and very reluctant to come near the boat. After an hour of sweating, grunting and enjoying life to it’s fullest, Frank handed the baton off to “Finess Les”, who became a muscle man and took over. After about twenty minutes we were just seeing the leader and then without warning and a swipe of his tail the marlin jumped out of the water and came right at the boat at high velocity. He slammed off the front of the boat like a pinball bouncing off a bumper with flashes of brilliant blues and purples and then dove down to deeper waters. Finally Les prevailed and he tired. Victor got the leader and off he went. High fives and some primal whoops were had. Frank was so psyched that he did a little Danish jig on the deck.
We did arrive a bit late at the marina. Since Semana Santa was in full celebratory mode the restaurant at the end of the dock was packed with folks and even some of the famous lightly clad “Gallo Girls” were shaking some booty. But committed to my offer I took off my shirt and gladly gave it to Victor, who beamed a big toothless smile, and I walked to my car down the dock, past the boats, past the curious crowds…. shirtless and content. There are some good fish stories going to go around in Demark.

PORPOISES' IN THE SOUND

BELIEVE IT OR NOT. TODAY THERE WERE A NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF PORPOISES IN THE MOUTH OF THE RIVER HEADING TO THE SOUND. THE WATER IS VERY SALTY AND THE TEMP. IS AROUND 36-40 DEGREES. I DONT KNOW IF I HAVE EVER SEEN THEM HERE THIS EARLY MOST OF THE TIME IT IS AROUND MAY BEFORE YOU EVEN GET A PEAK AT ONE. WE HAD A GREAT TRIP SATURDAY WITH THE BATEMAN CREW. WE HAD TO WORK EXTRA HARD JUST TO GET A BITE. WE FISHED THE ENTIRE SOUND WITH ONLY 2 FISH BEING CAUGHT, BUT WE HAD A GREAT TIME DOING IT. THANKS GUYS AND LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING TOGETHER ON THAT DUCK TRIP FOR NEXT YEAR.
